A refrigerator will still receive air from the room, but it is airtight otherwise.

The air is pumped in with fans and the fans can easily be disabled or sealed.

When I was two, I suct myself in a (not plugged in) fridge. I was too weak to open the door from the inside, and I was very afraid I was going to die. I don't think I was in there very long, but it felt like forever.
